Since it was formed the Sussex Guild have exhibited at Michelham Priory so this year the Guild are delighted to be holding their 40th celebrations at this beautiful and historic venue.

The Sussex Guild is a group of around 100 professional designer makers of fine contemporary and traditional craftwork; members live and work in Sussex or in the adjoining counties.

This four-day event brings together over fifty members of the Guild together with several guest exhibitors in the lovely setting of Michelham Priory and its grounds. Together with the wide range of beautiful craftwork displayed there will be many craft demonstrations. These include a blacksmith at his forge, a potter at his wheel, woodturning and machine embroidery.

Members of the Guild exhibiting at Michelham this year include founder member Sam Fanaroff who helped to organise the Guild’s first show all those years ago; Sam was recently awarded an honorary fellowship of the Society of Designer Craftsmen in recognition of his contribution to craft and design. Lady Jane Lloyd of Berwick will make the presentation during the show. Sam Fanaroff is a metal smith who lives and works at West Ham. His sculptural pieces have been exhibited throughout the country.

An added attraction in the old house is an exhibition of the work of several past members of the Guild.  The house is open to the public and tells the story of the building, displaying rooms furnished with artefacts from the past. The Priory, which boasts the longest moat in England, also has a working watermill and charming gardens.

There is a picnic area near to the Iron age houses and a licensed restaurant and, weather permitting, a barbecue.

 Every day the storyteller will be entertain the young at heart.
